About Guatemala

Guatemala City is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Guatemala, in Spanish República de Guatemala, and also the most inhabited city in Central America. It is located in the south-central sector of the country. The area where nowadays lies Guatemala City was first habited by the Maya, where they established in Kaminaljuyú, and then in 1775 the Spanish colonists founded a small town. Some of the interesting spots in Guatemala City are the Historic Downtown District, the Relief Map of Guatemala, the Guatemala City General Cementery, the Obelisco, among others.

From Guatemala City there can be seen four volcanoes (Agua, Fuego, Pacaya and Acatenango), from two of them are active.
